As a wholly-owned subsidiary of A-Rank Berhad — a Bursa Malaysia Main Market listed company since 2005 — Formosa Shyen Horng Metal is a long-standing company for more than two decades specialized in manufacturing and supplying aluminium billets which serve as the base material behind those products.

What started in 1998 with 12,000 metric tonnes of annual capacity is today the largest secondary aluminium remelt operation in Malaysia, producing up to 132,000 MT a year for extrusion partners across Asia.

8 melting furnaces

Each rated at 25 MT — fitted with heat-regenerating burners and magnetic stirrers for energy efficiency and consistent alloying.

Hydraulic tilting holding furnace

A single 30 MT unit delivers precise temperature control between melt and cast — a foundation for billet quality.

4 Vertical Direct-Chill (VDC) casting lines

Fully automated vertical direct-chilled casting with air-slip molds and in-line degasser — shallow sump, to prevent hydrogen porosity.

6 homogenising furnaces + 4 cooling booths

Each 35 MT homogeniser pairs with air cooling to achieve uniformly metallurgical properties and deliver extruder-ready microstructure.

7 automated billet saws

High-throughput cutting cells cut lead times for every dimension we ship — from 3″ through 11″, up to 6 m.

Quality Assurance - End-to-End Process Control

  • Two Optical Emission Spectrometers (OES) for precise alloy composition analysis.
  • ALSCAN Hydrogen Analyzer for molten aluminium hydrogen content measurement and control.
  • Ultrasonic Testing (UT) for internal defect detection and product integrity verification.
  • Metallurgical Laboratory equipped with an optical microscope for microstructure analysis.
  • ISO 9001:2015 Certified Quality Management System ensuring consistent product quality
